A dress is a long garment composed of a skirt and a bodice joined together at the waist. They are worn by both women and girls and can be of varying lengths the shortest ending just above the knee. The length is dictated to by fashion or the private flavour of the woman in question. In the earlier years the lower 1/2 the dress were supported by a ‘hoop’ which fitted beneath. Only 2 lengths were seen at this time, ankle and floor length ; neither of them especially practical.
Modern womens dresses are a lot posher to wear and loads more practicable dependent on what occasion you want the dress for.
Each are designed to match the time, event and season it is necessary for. The preferred types include the jumper dress, a sleeveless dress worn over a top or shirt, a maxi dress, a long, form fitting ankle length dress, cocktail gowns for formal parties and a wedding gown for that extra-special day in each woman’s life. Dresses make a friendly change from skirt, blouses and trousers and they are regularly thought of as a reasonable chance to dress up and look special for once. They’re also much more cool to wear than trousers but have the obstacle of being tricky to put on and take off.
