{June 28, 2009}   Subterranean Termites

Termites are exceedingly significant in nature because they recycle deceased trees back into soil. But unfortunately it is not possible for a termite to tell the difference between wood found in nature and wood found in our houses. It is known that termites cause more devastation in California to wood products and structures in households than any other insect. This is why, homeowners must realise termites and how they can be dominated.

Subterranean termites live in the ground like ants. They forage for wood sank beneath or in contact with the ground. termites can also hit above ground using mud tubes that protect them from predators. Subterranean termites can not eat through concrete, however they can gain access to a structure through passes in the concrete. Fumigations do not control them because the fumigant does not reach into the soil. Termitecontrol can be acquired by placing chemical barriers in the soil. Termite bait stations are also good, however it takes time for termites to find them.

All termites species are known as social insects who live in highly organized settlements. Corresponding to numerous insects, termites have three different stages, an egg, an immature and an adult stage). There are three all important types of adult termites: workers, soldiers and reproductives. The reproductives include the king and queen and extra reproductives are the ones that produce eggs. The soldiers protect the colony from attackers such as ants. Workers are the heart of the colony. They clean and care for all the other termites.
