TalkTalk has announced that its customers will get to make free local calls from 1st May onwards, and from 2nd June, calls to 0845 and 0870 numbers will also become free-of-charge.
TalkTalk was the first provider to offer free calls between its own customers and later it became the first to offer free bundled broadband to its phone customers. With the new offer, the company has another feather in its cap and has kept its pioneering tradition alive. For an independent approach to compare the best broadband, take a look here.
According to TalkTalk, a large percentage (70%) of all calls made by its customers are local calls, and allowing the customers to make lengthy local calls without having to worry about huge phone bills will be a major boost to them, especially as many of them have been hit by the recession.
Wendy Becker, the TalkTalk MD, said at the announcement that the company has always tried to give its customers a better deal, and the new offer will please those who want to constantly stay in touch with their neighbours, friends and relatives.
The company will, however, be increasing its monthly rental charges to £11.25, supposedly as a means to offset the revenue lost because of the new offer. In its defence, the company has argued that the rental increase will only compensate BT’s recent line rental hike.
