How to feed and what to feed sugar gliders – both are controversial subjects. Like all other pets that are new to this field, their requirements and feeds are somewhat of a mystery, but the longer you use them as pets, the more you know about their needs. Unfortunately, in the case of sugar gliders, many books, websites, and stores do not provide quality information, which make the situation more complicated.

Of course, proper food of a good quality is necessary for the health of sugar gliders. There are many diseases that can appear because of improper feeding with the most common one being bone disease that results from the lack of improper calcium and phosphorus in the sugar glider’s diet.

Naturally, the sugar gliders eat eucalyptus gum, sap, insects, nectar and honey. Also, they can eat bird eggs, small birds and many other items. But this is a very tough diet to give them during captivity. So, you must provide them a variety of food in order to make them healthy and active in captivity.

If we would take good care of our sugar gliders’ diet and avoid the things which are not good for them, then we can protect them from different kinds of diseases. You must give them such a food which contains the necessary vitamins that a sugar glider needs. Something such as peach juice is very good for them and they also love to take drink it.

You’ve had punctuation and grammar shoved down your throat since grade school. This isn’t another “techie” post. It’s about smoothing out your writing like a pro. If you haven’t learned the following easy tips, learn them, and I promise you will be an exponentially better writer.

I feel like the following tips don’t need big explanations; that could actually confuse more than teach. Instead, I will give examples of clumsy writing compared to smooth writing, then I will give brief explanations.

Let’s examine a paragraph, shall we?

Harriet was sitting on the couch knitting all day. Her good friend called her on the phone and said that she needed someone to have a conversation with. So Harriet began to tell her to relax. Her friend was glad, and she started to calm down.

All the boldfaced words can be “smoothened”:

was sitting… sat

her on the phone… [delete] Cut unneeded words.

that… [delete] Cut unneeded words.

conversation with… with which to have a conversation Don’t end a sentence with a preposition.

So… [delete] Don’t begin a sentence with a conjunction.

began to tell… began telling Often you can combine “to” with the following verb.

Her friend was glad, and she started to calm down… Glad, her friend started calming Condense sentences, cutting unneeded words.

Now, let’s read the paragraph with the changes.

Harriet sat on the couch knitting all day. Her good friend called and said she needed someone with which to have a conversation. Harriet began telling her to relax. Glad, her friend calmed.

These sort of tips are good to keep in mind while writing. They are especially useful when you’re on your last edits of a manuscript.

{July 06, 2008}   Professionals Don’t Discount Their Services (And Neither Should You)

Professionals don’t discount. Period. Your lawyer doesn’t. Neither does your doctor. A set rate is a set rate. At least for them.

But what about you? Having a sale on products you sell to generate interest or say ‘thanks’ is fine, once in a while. It even makes people excited to test out your stuff. But have you ever felt the temptation to discount your services to sign on more clients? Come on, be honest.

Worse, you may be someone who has a “sliding scale,” meaning you determine what to charge once you get that prospective client in front of you. You’ve got to stop doing that! It’s about the worse thing you can do for your reputation, Client Attraction, and practice building.

Now, many people feel the pull to offer discounts to friends and people who can’t seem to afford their services. Here’s my thought about that: it devalues your services dramatically and shows others you’ve given them permission (as well as yourself) to think your services are not worth what you charge for them.

While you’re at it, you’re also giving them a signal to keep taking advantage of you over and over again. I remember when I was doing nutrition counseling, back many years ago, I was “pressured” by a client to give a discount. I was in a place where I “needed” clients, so I gave in, thinking that this person would not have signed up if I hadn’t knocked off those last $200 or $300.

I found I resented that client the entire time we worked together. Somehow, I was a little angry that I was forced into this and I found myself giving less of myself in our sessions. I didn’t like what I was doing. I just felt used. (Has that ever happened to you?)

It became clear that when someone takes an inch (asking for a discount and getting it), they’ll then try to take a mile (not believing the policies and procedures apply to them). I had to set up a whole bunch of boundaries in the relationship. Needless to say, the whole thing was a disaster and if I’d stuck to my original rate the first time (my boundaries around my rates) I wouldn’t have had this problem throughout.

Discounting is not necessarily good news for you and your reputation. Here’s what you can do instead. Offer different options, and different programs to fit all different budget levels. Let there be something for everyone’s budget, that way, you don’t HAVE to discount.

Your assignment:

Make a pact with yourself now that you will never discount. Yes, right now. Trust me on this one.

If the person still cannot afford your services, that’s OK. Avoid the temptation to reduce your rates, even “just this one time, because I like you.” (This is especially important for those who don’t have a full practice and really NEED the money.)

Let them know you’ll be here to help them whenever they’re able to. Most times, people come back to sign up for one of your programs when they can afford it a few weeks later. It’s worth the wait.

Instead, create different offerings at different price points to have something there for different types of clients and different budget levels.

{July 04, 2008}   Lessons Learned from the Dot Com Bomb and the Attack on America

Many Americans didn’t have time to recover from the “dot com bomb” before the “attack on America.” Whether we wanted to or not, many of us are forced to take a long, hard look at life and realize several bitter truths:

• What seems highly logical may turn out to be completely ridiculous.

• What you see today may be gone tomorrow.

• Who you think has all the answers may be totally wrong.

• Why you expect to succeed may be the very reason you fail.

Eighty hour workweeks, two hour commutes, and a family who never sees you…these are just some of the hallmarks of the past dot com business craze where high-tech entrepreneurs sacrificed their time, their health, and sometimes their family for their pursuit of “overnight” riches. As these business-minded individuals worked tirelessly to capitalize on the e-business revolution, their dreams often materialized briefly and then quickly turned to dust. Looking back now on this past business craze, we can all learn one important lesson: working harder and longer is just plain dumb!

This is not to say that we should all sit back and live a life of idle laziness. On the contrary, not working at all would be just as bad as working too much. It simply means that we need to create a balance between our professional and personal lives so we can reduce stress and be happy.

Focus on What’s Important The first step to a balanced life is to determine what’s important, both at work and at home. While obtaining the corner office and the front parking spot may be your ultimate professional goal, is it worth the price of sacrificing your personal goals, such as attending your child’s school play or taking that vacation you’ve been promising your spouse for the past five years? Prioritize the events in your life and determine which ones you can’t bend on and which ones are flexible. For example, you may decide that you want to attend every little league game your child plays in, yet your job requires you to work late several nights of the week. Perhaps you can opt to attend half of the season’s games, thus allowing you ample time to complete your work projects while still spending time with your family. When you evenly devote your time to the various aspects of your life, you create a win/win situation for yourself, your company, and your family.

Organization is Critical to Balance Your ability to accomplish anything in life is tied to your ability to find what you need precisely when you need it. If your office is buried under a mound of papers and you waste precious time each day searching for materials, it’s no wonder you can’t make time for your personal endeavors. Research shows that the average person spends 150 hours a year – almost six weeks – looking for misplaced information. Organize your office so you can use those 150 hours for more important activities, like picnics, beach outings, and relaxing family dinners. All your information should be organized in such a way that all people have access to what they need at any time, whether it is located in your office, in a central filing location, or in an off-site location. When people can find what they’re looking for, you reduce their dependence on you and the interruptions they make to have you help them locate something. While working harder and longer is dumb, working smarter is not. Enable yourself to work smart by keeping everything organized and in its place.

Create an Intentional Environment Be conscious about the decisions you make as to what you choose to surround yourself with. When you keep your surrounding free of clutter and build up, your stress level decreases. And the less stressed out you are, the more productive you can be. Did you know that 80% of what we keep we never use? So why spend time, money, and effort to continually move and keep track of things you’ll never need or use? For each piece of paper, ask these questions: “Does this require action or was it for information only?” “Does it exist elsewhere?” “How difficult would it be to get again?” “Is it recent enough to be useful?” and “What’s the worst thing that could happen if I don’t have this piece of paper?” If you can live with the results, toss it and free yourself from additional clutter and stress.

Balance is Attainable No matter how indispensable you think you are to your company’s success, no matter how much you want to impress your boss with your amount of overtime, and no matter how fast you want to climb the corporate ladder, sacrificing your personal life for professional success simply does not make sense. While working harder and longer may give you some short-term rewards, they’ll mean nothing if you have no one to share them with. As you go through your day always remember that what you see today may be gone tomorrow; who you think has all the answers may be totally wrong; and why you expect to succeed may be the very reason you fail. Keep your life’s activities and priorities in perspective so you can achieve the balance that’s necessary for a productive, profitable, and most important, happy future. That brings me to one final glorious conclusion: When it seems that everything is coming to an end, it may be just the beginning!

{July 03, 2008}   Freedom Of Speech and Press; Professional Writers Hate That

Well now I have seen the ultimate in hypocrisy from the liberals of the world. This time the sub-sector of these socialists are professional writers. One professional public relations shrill-type writer (24-years experience) states that Online Article Submission Sites hold no purpose in a scathing and mean-spirited article. Sure it does it allows freedom of speech, the press and expression for amateur writers like me.

But this professional free-lance public relations health and fitness industry writer indicates that such sites prevent many writers from charging high fees. Indeed this is true, it is called supply and demand and when a website offers free content with nearly 300,000 articles, then yes that changes supply and lowers costs.

But isn’t that free-enterprise? Yet these Bush Bashing Liberal Writers who cannot make it in the real world of free-enterprise, complain about high-oil prices and supply games with Oil Companies are themselves trying to attack online article submission sites to shore up supplies; but why? So they can make more money and charge higher fees. Hypocrisy!

So, apparently we have protectionism by writers, who will not allow innovation of a new trend to come to market and attacks on freedom of speech, so they can make higher fees? Go to hell, I have the right to write and post my work anywhere I please. That is the American Way, it is my Constitutional Right? How soon the “Freedom of the Press” writers forget. Hypocrisy at its finest with liberal Prozac induced, linear thought writers.
