{June 27, 2008}   Dog Grooming: Clipping the Nails

If the thought of clipping your dog’s nails is frightening to you aren’t alone. Most people prefer to ask their veterinarian to do this fiddly task. There’s no reason why clipping your dogs nails should be a frightening task at all. There’s no need to regard it as any different to giving your dog a bath.

Ideally you should start when your dog is young to get the dog used to having his feet handled regularly. Desensitizing your dog to having his paws handled will have a few other benefits too: it will make it easier for groomers or your vet to handle your dogs feet and will also mean if your dog is injured you will be able to examine his paws easier.

If it’s your first time clipping a dogs nails it might be a good idea to watch someone else do it first. Ask your vet or the groomer if you can watch while they clip your dogs nails.

You will need a special pair of clippers for the purpose. Human clippers of scissors could tear the nail and cause painful torn edges. Make sure you get the right size and type of clippers for your dog. You might find a nail file useful too.

You will also want to have some special clotting powder on hand just in case you accidentally cut the nails too short and it starts bleeding. You can find all these products at your local pet supply store.

You will want to clip the nails in a quiet place with minimal distractions. If your dog has never had his nails clipped or is particularly resistant you might want to ask someone to help you. You are after all poking at your dog with a sharp object and it could be dangerous !

To avoid mishaps its best to slowly desensitize your dog to having his paws handled. this part should be easy. Take your dogs paws and massage them a bit.

It makes the process easier if the dogs nails are softer. You can do this by bathing the dog beforehand, massaging some baby oil into the paws or even just dipping the paw into warm water. This has the dual effect of both softening the paws and cleaning the dirt out from under the nails.

Examine the nails closely and try to locate the cluster of veins. This is called the ‘quick’ and cutting this can cause your dog to bleed. If your dog has dark nails this can be difficult. The best policy here is to trim the nails bit by bit over a longer period of time. The quick will retreat over time.

Try to cut with the right hand and hold the paw firmly. Use a calm soothing voice while you do this. You don’t want your dog to become afraid and make the clipping more difficult. Try to cut at 90 degree angles.

If you do cut too far – don’t worry! You can use some of the powder to stop the bleeding. Just sprinkle the powder over the affected area or dip the paw into the powder. There are some other household items you can use to slow the bleeding. You can use cornflower or normal powder in the same way you use the styptic powder. You can also press the dogs nail into some soap. If the bleeding is not too bad – just simply applying pressure should slow the bleeding.

If you have cut your dogs nails too far and they bleed – this may make the dog scared of the nail clipping all over again. You will need to desensitize your dog again.

If your dog is very afraid of having his nails clipped you should gradually get the dog used to the process and the tools. Start again by praising and treating the dog while you handle his paws. Then get the dog used to the clippers. Step by step desensitization coupled with positive reinforcement should ease your problem.

If you really can’t get your dog to behave long enough for a nail clipping remember – most vets will do it for you. Don’t be afraid to ask for help.

{June 26, 2008}   The Inland Empire is Home of the Sand Toy

For about 10 years now, maybe longer, the Inland Empire has been ground zero for those who love to take their expensive sand toys out to the river or lake or some sandy, uncomfortably hot area that may or may not be near a body of water. Sand toys are generally things like dune buggies, motorbikes, quads, small boats ironically, and of course the huge weekend warrior-like stable to transport all these toys around. The modern day horse which actually drives all of the around is usually a huge lifted truck, probably from an American made car company like Ford or Chevy, or a powerful SUV, also American made.

You can drive around the Inland Empire without seeing these lifted beasts outnumbering regular normal cars at about the ratio of roughly 5 to 1. There is no limit to how many of these types of vehicles that are diving around IE roads. Invariable all these trucks and SUV’s will have several stickers attached to them, letting everyone around that they are, in fact, sand people. Or more commonly known as bro’s. These bro’s have a plethora of stickers to choose from such as an iron cross, or various exaggerated words like extreme, or aggression, or militia.

In light of this Inland Empire sand movement, there have been many companies looking to capitalize off the culture of the bro’s. They offer stickers, lift kits, large custom tires and rims, sell sand toys and RV’s, and even vehicle wraps. For these companies, a good online marketing campaign would be beneficial. Inland Empire website design is key to helping these companies spread their sand culture to areas even outside of the Inland Empire.

{June 26, 2008}   Tim McGraw and Faith Hill: A Love Connection On and Off the Stage

Tim grew up riding horses and playing baseball in rural Louisiana. When he was eleven, he accidentally discovered his mother’s deepest secret–that he is the biological son of pro baseball player Tug McGraw. Tim is currently considered the king of country music. He holds twenty number one hits, has sold thirty million albums and was awarded two Grammy’s. Faith has also sold 30 million records and won four Grammy’s.

On Faith

Faith Hill was born in Star, Mississippi on September 21, 1967. Faith Hill’s real name is Audrey Faith Perry and she was adopted. Her last name came when she married Daniel Hill. They divorced in 1991. She grew up singing in her church and at family events. When Faith was nineteen she headed to Nashville to see if she could make a career in country music. Faith Hill was “discovered” working a job at a music publishing company. Her first demo record was cut and the song was called “It Scares Me”.

Faith made her first album with Warner Bros. in 1993. It was titled Take Me As I Am. With the single, “Wild One”, Faith became the first female country music singer to stay on the Billboard as number one for four weeks in a row. In 1995, Faith Hill released her second CD called “It Matters to Me”.

She was recently quoted as saying, “Each day I try to get as much out of life as I can – to keep it real, sincere and very honest. Hopefully, people can get that from my music. And if I’m lucky, one day there will be a little spot carved away somewhere that says I made a contribution.”

On The Couple

In 1996, McGraw teamed up with Warner Brothers and artist Faith Hill for the Spontaneous Combustion tour. It seems that spontaneous combustion is an appropriate description for this couple’s beginnings. Tim McGraw and Faith Hill were married in October 1996. As a couple, they’ve soared to the top of the country charts with romantic duets such as “Let’s Make Love” and “It’s Your Love.” Their ballads are inspired by their real-life love story.

People magazine named Faith Hill as one of the 50 “Most Beautiful People”. McGraw’s “Everywhere” earned the CMA album of the year honors in 1998. “It’s Your Love”, was the first musical partnership between Tim and Faith. “It’s Your Love” held the No. 1 spot Billboard’s country singles chart for six weeks. “It’s” received a CMA vocal event trophy song and single of the year at the ACM Awards that year. More duets followed with Let’s Make Love earning a Grammy.

In 1997, Faith gave birth to their first daughter Gracie. They were gifted with two more daughters in 2001 and 2003. In a very surreal sense, it seems these two were destined for each other. Tim’s biological parentage and Faith’s adoption had to give them a sense of having something profoundly painful, in common. Neither grew up with both of their parents. It makes sense that not only do they share a bond of having suffered somewhat the same experience but that they value their love and their family above all else. Their Soul2Soul II Tour proves to be a representation on their love connection from off stage to on stage.

Soul2Soul II Tour (SS2)

Tim McGraw and Faith Hill’s Soul2Soul Tour 2000 marked one of the industry’s most successful concert tours in history. All venues sold-out and the tour created record box office sales. SS 2000 ended about six years ago. Many have long awaited and anticipated these months now into 2006. Tim and Faith fans knew they would be back.

Soul2Soul II Tour is expected to exceed 80 concert performances and will most definitely include the music that McGraw and Hill have made their trademark over the years. SS2 will be as grand as SS1. Reports coming in say that many of the venues showcasing SS2 have sold out the tickets in ten minutes. It is expected that the set will be outstanding as usual. The couple is known for the use of the round center stage design that allows for all seats in the house to be the best seats in the house. Soul2Soul II Tour will include many of Tim and Faith’s biggest hits and duets. Many fans have reported that their love for each other is obvious on-stage. They send out a powerful vibe that not only entertains but makes many wish they could experience a connection like that of Tim McGraw and Faith Hill.

{June 23, 2008}   Setting Up Your Home Office to Enhance Your Network Marketing Lifestyle

Creating positive changes in your home for your development in network marketing.

You’ve decided that network marketing is the way to take control of your life. This is a wonderful first step towards financial success and securing your future. To make the most of your new lifestyle, which will include working from home, you will want to take some time to organize your home office.

Not every part of your home may be quiet enough or have adequate room for your office. Picking the best area for your office is important. You want to choose a space that will help you avoid interruptions. If you have family, your office may have to be off limits to them. You may want to stay away from other distractions such as the television or windows overlooking high levels of activity.

The personal space for your business needs privacy, light, and room for all the things that you’ll add to it. It should also be comfortable, organized, and equipped to keep you motivated.

Your home office will need a few essential items. A desk, lamp or similar lighting and a comfortable chair are all important. Equally important are a computer, printer, fax, scanner, clock, file cabinet and phone system. A good quality phone system will pay dividends and should include a headset, flash button, mute, and preferably a speakerphone with mute. Speed dial and caller ID can also be very useful. A business cell phone will also keep you available while you are away from your desk. Call your local phone company and set up Voice Mail, Three-Way Calling, and Call Waiting. Train yourself to use these tools effectively. You should also consider having two additional lines installed for you business phone and fax. As you will probably be spending a lot of time on the phone, shop around for the best long-distance deals. And make sure your phone voicemail message is both businesslike and energetic. You should keep a calendar for appointments, and work out a way of tracking your work and prospects. Purchase a 3-ring binder, pocket folder, or other method to keep all your information (contact numbers, company paperwork, etc.) accessible and organized. Also remember to keep on hand a supply of printer paper, ink cartridges, empty disks or CDs to store data. There is nothing worse than running out of these staples when you are busy.

You should also keep on hand your motivational tools such as your journal, CDs and DVDs, along with your short-term and long-term goals. Motivational items like goals lists and the description of your ideal day, works wonders when posted boldly around your office. Sometimes light classical music to keep you company as you work really helps you along. Remember that these recommendations are to assist you with your success; however success is attained from within, not with tools and gadgets. These suggestions are to ease your workload and improve your efficiency. You have the real power to take control of your life and make your dreams come true.

{June 20, 2008}   In Sales Service Means Business

Some businesses flourish while others slowly fade away. There’s usually a good reason. Here are two examples.

Bernadette, my wife, has a busy schedule. She will often call for a manicure at the last minute. She’s been going to Carol’s Beauty Shop and Day Spa for the past two years. According to Bernadette, whenever she calls Carol and regardless of how full her schedule is, she is always pleasant, professional and very accommodating.

When Bernadette calls and asks “Do you have an opening for a manicure this morning,” Carol never says no. You can hear her smiling on the phone when she says, “Sure, let me see what’s available for you, I’m sure we can fit you in.” Then after looking at the appointment book she says, “I can put you with Rosa at ten or Carla at eleven, which is better for you?”

Her business is booming. Carol started with a staff of two and now employs twenty. She combines the right words with a great attitude.

Example number two. Last week, I needed some office supplies. I went to the Office Max store in Vernon Hills, Illinois. It’s big and it’s close and I always have to wait. It was 2:30 in the afternoon and there was a line at the only cash register that was open.

The woman in front of me was buying about six items including a day timer. The day timer was missing the bar code needed for scanning purposes. The cashier grabbed the microphone and called for assistance. The man approached, with a face that declared, “this better be good.”

He left to go find the price. The customer in front of me said he was going in the wrong direction and took off to find the item herself. Now there were seven people in line. We were waiting, waiting, waiting . . . the very thing I enjoy most, especially when I’m in a hurry.

Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, I speculated quietly to the cashier, that if this kind of service keeps up, Office Max would be out of business in a few years.

The cashier looked at me and said with a scowl, “Good, we all hate working here anyway.”

After awhile longer, I paid my bill and left wondering where I’d be getting my office supplies in the future.

Some businesses flourish while others fade away. The people make the difference in every selling situation. Here are three things to remember every day if you are serious about growing your business.

1. Show up with a positive and professional attitude every day.

2. For all routine situations, know exactly (word for word) how you’ll deal with them.

3. Focus on exceeding all customer expectations every time.

The key to success is you and you really make the difference. It’s hard to focus on the customer and not have them really appreciate your effort.

Good service has its own reward. So does bad service.

{June 20, 2008}   Real Estate Investment Requires A Team

I had a hard time at first with real estate investment. One of the reasons was that I tended to be a “lone wolf,” trying to do too much myself. I’ve since learned that to really do well investing in real estate, you need to have a team of people you can trust and rely on. Here are some possible team members, and what they need to be on the team.

1. Real estate agent. A licensed agent with experience in the area you invest in and access to the MLS (Multiple Listing Service), can be a great help. If she is a seller’s agent, she can still ethically bring the best deals to you once she knows you’re a serious buyer.

2. Real estate attorney. This should be someone familiar with the laws and legal customs of your area, and have experience with the type of deals you intend to do (If you are buying rentals, she should be familiar with doing evictions, for example.)

3. Accountant or bookkeeper. Keeping proper books for real estate investments is getting more complicated with all the tax-law changes. Find someone that understands the law, and what you want.

4. Mortgage broker or banker. The first can offer many options, but the second can make the loan decision. Each has their advantages, and you could use both. In either case it’s important that they understand what you want (fast closings, lower interest, corporate loans?)

5. Appraiser. Not only can a good appraiser give you an accurate valuation of a property, but they should be able to suggest ways in which you can raise the value of a property. Use someone that will talk to you.

6. Inspector. In some areas it is easy to become an inspector with little experience. It’s best if you use one that is or used to be a contractor, so he can find the problems AND give you some idea of the cost of repairs.

7. Insurance agent. A good one will understand what you want, and find ways to save you money. Insure all your properties with one agent, and you’re likely to have discounts available, and better service.

8. Escrow officer. They will usually be with a closing company. Look for someone that’s efficient, and can explain things clearly to both sides. If he is confused by a slightly creative contract, he should educate easily or be replaced.

9. Cleaning person. Having a trusted person or crew ready means a fast turn around when you buy a rental or rehab project.

10. Property manager. Be sure that the company you hire has exerience, is responsive, and will have time when you call. A good property manager can tell you BEFORE you buy, what you should get for rent in a given area.

Real estate investment is less stressful and more profitable with a good team on your side.

{June 18, 2008}   How to Get a Hotel Discount

You need to ASK if you want a discount. Here are ways to do it:

* Search the internet, look for great deals. There are various types of hotels that offer great discounts on the web for online customers. Be sure to check these out.

* Plan your trip during the off season months. These are the times when big discounts are given.

* Call the hotel of your choice. Ask them about offers and discounts that they can give. List all promotions.

* Certain hotels can give discounts to credit card holders of certain card establishments. Ask for the manager and ask him about it. The manager is the best person to ask, since if you can make negotiations, he has the authority to make negotiations with you.

* Ask if they give discounts to students or senior citizens.

* Simply ask through the phone how can you qualify for a discount. If at certain day of the week or at certain times of the year they give discounts, ask them about it and ask how much or how less can they give, then ask if you could get still a higher discount. Usually at off peak seasons, hotels will be willing to give in, just to fill the empty rooms.

* Ask for certain packages. Hotels usually offer rooms with free breakfast.

* Do name drop. If you know of someone who frequently stays them, mention his name. It can help. Tell them your friend referred you to them and ask for a discount. Don’t ever give up if they say no. A statement like “is that the best you can do?” can encourage a big discount.

* Often, people in the military get good hotel rates. Usually, discounts are offered to government employees.

* At off peak seasons, you could definitely ask for special rates. Then if they don’t budge after you have offered a discount, ask some extras, like breakfast.

* When negotiating, it is very important to write down all agreed discussions. Write too, the names of the persons that you have been talking to, the time as well as the day and date. Ask for a number that you can call before checking in to the hotel for confirmation.

* Upon arrival to the hotel, look around and ask for negotiations once more. For instance if you feel that the hotel is not fully booked, ask for a room with a better view than the one you are in, if you don’t agree with what you see.

Enjoy your stay!

{June 18, 2008}   Testosterone Therapy and Erectile Dysfunction

The magic of testosterone therapy on erectile dysfunction goes without saying. People who have been benefited know how this has actually changed lives for the better. This therapy is mostly used for patients having or approaching the andropause stage. During the last couple of years doctors have become more and more receptive of this therapy and experimented with its use in various patients. This has actually helped them to learn more about the advantages and the effectiveness of this therapy. Before all these, once you feel that you are having erectile dysfunction try to see if you can help it some way or the other with your courage.

One of the most important symptoms that can directly give birth to erectile dysfunction is lack of energy and vitality. This is caused commonly due to lower levels of testosterone. So, if you see that you are actually lacking the energy to make the erection happen, then there must be some connection with this hormone. In such cases, doctors can recommend testosterone therapy after scanning through your health reports. Improper fooding can also be an important cause of erectile dysfunction. If you think food means just filling up your appetite then you are wrong.

Intake of metals like zinc etc. can make a huge difference in the overall health condition thereby balancing the hormonal disparity in the body. This, done properly, can work as an alternative to testosterone therapy. You don’t need to see a doctor for this as well. Also, it will be wise that you give up any addictions that you have, for example drinking, smoking etc. This will help you to keep yourself fit and energetic so that you can manage to take on the challenge called erectile dysfunction. After all it’s your organ… so you know it much better than anyone else.

{June 17, 2008}   Good Reasons Why A Furniture Rental May Make Good Cents!

How often have you bought something only to decide a month or two later that it just doesn’t fit your lifestyle, or the color isn’t right? This is especially difficult situation when the purchase is relatively large like electronics, appliances, or furniture.

One important benefit of furniture and electronic appliance renting is that you can try the product out before really committing to ownership. Want to try the latest flat screen television but are concerned about the clarity or glare in your own home? Rent the unit for a month or so and try it out! This is especially true when considering an appliance technology that is new to you. Things like a flat heating element stove, or an extra large capacity washer and dryer all are good candidates for the try before you buy idea. If you think you may like that large capacity washer and dryer but can’t swing the 1,100 to 1,500 dollars for the pair, getting them from a furniture rental company may be a good alternative.

Furniture rental company services are also a way to try out the latest in furniture designs at a fraction of the costs of a direct purchase. Try color schemes in your home without committing to the direct purchase of that new sofa or bedroom suite until you know the color scheme is right.

The first consideration when renting furniture will probably be price. The reason for this is because most of the rental cost is rental fees and not toward the purchase cost. This is ok however in that the intent, at least from this point of view is to rent the equipment or furniture to see if it fits into your lifestyle and home. If you purchase directly and the color is wrong, or that flat screen television isn’t exactly right, too bad you own it. With furniture renting or try before you buy, if it’s wrong, it’s a simple matter to get an exchange or replacement.

Short term needs are another great reason why furniture rental services should be considered. If moving into a new home soon but don’t want to move your furniture from storage into temporary housing, then into the new home, rental services may be the answer. Or if moving is part of a career move and you find yourself with two homes, a short term rental service can save a lot of expense. Instead of buying two sets of furniture, consider using furniture rentals in the new home until your previous homes furnishings are shipped.

Although furniture rental companies also do sell product, they offer the very best in consumer satisfaction by using the rental services as a try before you buy option. All in all, this can offer a consumer good service at a moderate cost while delivering the products desired almost immediately.

Abigail Franks writes on a variety of subjects such as home, family, and health. For more information on furniture and appliance rental visit the site at http://www.furniture-rentals.supersavings.info
